Scholarships for Black Women

There are many scholarships in the world. Some are for certain minorities, some are for people with a certain level of wealth, and others are for everybody. There are many scholarships for black women in the world as well.

One such scholarship is the GRCF Hackett Family scholarship. This scholarship is for students who have graduated from a high school in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and are currently working towards an undergraduate degree. Though this scholarship is technically open to every one, preference is given to women of color.

Another relatively simple scholarship for black women is the Bellevue Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Scholarship. This scholarship was created by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, whose founders strongly believed that is was important for young women, especially those of African descent, to get the college education that they had dreamed about. This scholarship is intended for high school seniors of African descent. Preference is given to those who attended high school in the Bellevue and East Side communities. This scholarship awards a total of $2,500. $1,000 is given to the student for their first year of college and then $500 is given to the student for the next three years, provided they keep their GPA above a 2.75 and complete 20 hours of community service each year.

Scholarships for Black Women Open Up Educational Doors

Another scholarship for black women is the Women of the ELCA Amelia Kemp Scholarship. This scholarship is intended to help women of color in any type of education after high school, whether it be undergraduate, graduate or vocational courses of study. This scholarship requires applicants to be 21 years old, a citizen of the United States, and be a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. It also requires that the applicant have experienced an interruption of education of at least two years since high school. Applicants are judged based on their educational goals and their commitment and participation in the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Consideration is also given to the amount of impact the money awarded would have on the total cost of the education.

Though many scholarships are open to anybody who would like to apply, there are many scholarships for black women. However, if you are a black woman looking for scholarship money, there is no need to limit yourself to scholarships only intended for black women. There are plenty of other scholarships out there that you also qualify for. It is important to apply to any and all scholarships you have a chance at winning.
