McDonalds Scholarship

McDonalds may be known for their Big Mac’s and fries but they are also doing something to help prospective college students in need of financial assistance—offering the McDonalds Scholarships. All of the McDonalds Scholarships are sponsored by The Ronald Mc Donald House Charities . Employees who work for the company and are involved in local community activities are eligible to apply for the scholarships.

Employee Scholarship McDonalds offers scholarships that fall into several categories. As mentioned, there is a scholarship for employees. The criteria for applicants includes: being a high school senior and applying for admission to an accredited college or university. Awards are based on academic record, work performance and community service. After selecting 51 recipients who receive $1000, one outstanding employee receives the highest award and is named “McScholar of the Year” receiving a $5000 award.

McDonalds employees who are interested in applying have special access to a website where they can submit their application. Since competition is fierce, the student should apply as early as possible. The application period begins in January of each year. African-American Future Achievers Scholarship The McDonalds Scholarship program offers a scholarship which targets African-American students. The minimum award is approximately $1000. To qualify for this award, the student must be a U.S. citizen and under 21 years of age. Also, the applicant must have a GPA of at least 2.7 along with a letter of recommendation from their high school or teacher.

The student is also required to write an essay about the experience of being an African-American. Hispanic Students Scholarship There is a McDonalds scholarship available for Hispanic students. Funding for this scholarship became available in 1985 and is open to any high school student of Hispanic lineage. The student must be a high school senior, not older than 21 years of age, an American citizen with a GPA of at least 2.7. The minimum award is $1000. Asian- American Scholarship There is also a scholarship available for Asian-American students who have at least one parent who is of Asian Pacific heritage.

As with the other McDonalds Scholarships, the awards are needs based and follow most of the same criteria as the other scholarships. The general requirements for all the McDonalds Scholarship is as follows:

  • • You must be a United States citizen
  • • Not older than 21 years of age
  • • You must be eligible to attend a 2 or 4 year college or university
  • • Submit the application and supporting documents by the deadline
