ROTC Scholarships

If you are interested in joining the military, an ROTC program, and subsequently, ROTC scholarships might be the way to go. These scholarships are not need based, and instead are merit based. They are highly flexible as well. There are scholarship options for any level of your degree, and full tuition scholarships. You might also qualify for room and board reimbursement, instead of tuition, if that option is a better choice for you. You also may be granted additional allowances for books and fees. Also, Army ROTC scholarships provide monthly living allowances depending on your year in the ROTC curriculum. These may range from $300/month for your first year to $500/month for your fourth year.

The army commitment for these scholarships is generally four years. However, some Cadets may be eligible to  serve part time in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard and pursue a civilian career instead. The requirements for an ROTC scholarship include having a high school GPA of at least 2.5 and scoring a minimum of 920 on the math/verbal sections of the SAT.

ROTC Scholarships Are A Great Option For Those Interested In the Military

ROTC Scholarships

These requirements are standard no matter the length of scholarship you apply for. You also must meet certain physical requirements. You can apply for these scholarships during your time at college or as a senior in high school. Receiving a scholarship automatically makes serving in the army a requirement, even though the usual policy is if you only complete the first two years of ROTC training you are not committed to the military.

The commitment required for those who receive ROTC scholarships is only one year more than the regular ROTC commitment of three years. This is not a huge price to pay for someone who is already considering entering the military after college.

If you graduate from an ROTC program you are commissioned as a U.S. Army Second Lieutenant. After that you will receive specialized training in one of 17 branches of the Army. You may be in almost any major at a school that has ROTC programs, which allows for great flexibility. The military and ROTC program offers great leadership opportunities, which is something that future employers will look for. Other Scholarships

You also may continue your career in the military for your entire life, if you so choose. ROTC scholarships are perfect for those who may be interested in joining the military after college, or who aren’t entirely certain what they would like to do once they graduate.
