Are you a teacher interested in going back to school? Are you unsure of where you’ll find the money and the time to do such a thing? Well, lucky for you there are plenty of scholarships for teachers out there. Now all you have to do is find the time!

Perhaps the best resource for teachers looking for scholarships is the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. They have a list of numerous scholarships on their website. For most of these scholarships, applying is as easy as filling out a profile. However, many other scholarships require separate applications. It is important to note that most of these scholarships are limited to certain geographical areas, and others are limited by what subject you teach. However, pretty much all combinations of subjects and locations are covered.

One example of a scholarship available is the GlaxoSmithKline Endowed Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is for teachers who are interested in teaching science, specifically those pursuing a Early Adolescence/Science or Adolescence and Young Adulthood/Science certification. State Farm also sponsors scholarships, though they are limited to public school teachers in certain cities, such as Las Vegas, Houston, and Philadelphia. The Edward B. Rust Jr. Scholarship Fund is for teachers in Illinois seeking certification. Another state specific scholarship is offered by Chase. Their state of choice is Utah. However, Chase sponsors a variety of other teacher related scholarships as well, in numerous locations.

The Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation offers scholarships to mathematics and science teachers in particular states, such as Alabama, Arkansas and Louisiana. However, after a certain period of time, if funds remain, the scholarship is a

warded to a broader range of locations and specialities. There are also many “Friends Of” funds available, such as Friends of Philly, Friends of Florida, and Friends of Alaska. These all provide varying amounts of funds to teachers.

Very few people would argue that assertion that teachers are a valuable resource. Based on how many scholarships for teachers exist, I would say that many companies and individuals agree with this assertion. If you are a teacher, or even an aspiring teacher, it is important to know that the funding is out there for you. There is no reason why you can’t follow your dreams and continue your education as you see fit. No matter your location or field of interest, there is also certainly some money out there for you!
