Scholarships For Undocumented Students

If you are an undocumented student or illegal alien, it can be difficult to find college funding. Many scholarships require you to be a citizen of the United States. However, luckily there are plenty of scholarships for undocumented students. Many scholarship do not have any sort of citizenship requirement, and some scholarships are intendeds specifically for undocumented students.

One scholarship, the Chicano Organizing & Research’s Que Llueva Café Scholarship, is intended only for those who are undocumented. This scholarship is for undocumented students only, and was founded in an attempt to combat what they feel are unfair immigration policies in the United States. This scholarship takes into account three things. The first is your personal story, including financial need and any other challenges you have faced. The second is extracurricular involvement, such as participation in clubs, sports and community service. The third thing this scholarship takes into account is what they call your academic promise. This includes GPA and test scores, but also includes your potential to perform well in the future.

There Are Plenty Of Scholarships For Undocumented Students

Another scholarship that doesn’t have any citizenship requirements is the Kaiser Permanente Asian Association Scholarship. To be eligible for this scholarship you simply must be a senior in high school and your high school or residence must be in the Northern California Kaiser Permanente service area. You also must have a GPA of at least 2.5. Asian heritage is not a requirement for this scholarship, provided you have demonstrated leadership within an Asian community. A letter of recommendation is also required for this scholarship. This scholarship awards $3000 to four students each year.

Another set of scholarships for undocumented students can be found through the Geneseo Migrant Center. They offer roughly nine scholarships with varying eligibility scholarships, including the Robert Apicella Good Samaritan Migrant Scholarship and the Juanita Crippen Memorial Scholarship. Each scholarship awards different amounts to it’s winners. Many have specific geographic requirements as well. These scholarships are generally intended for children of migrant farm workers.

This is just the tip of the iceberg as far as scholarships for undocumented students go. Even though it seems as though many scholarships have citizen requirements, it is not difficult to find some that don’t. Generally, private merit based scholarships do not have any sort of citizenship requirement. It is important to read the requirements for every scholarship carefully, just in case you happen to be eligible. It might surprise you how many scholarships for undocumented students there are!
